Come celebrate the past year of community leadership!

The purpose of this letter is to invite you to be a sponsor for our 2nd annual Leadership Celebration Banquet of Congregations Building Community (CBC).  We are the Stanislaus County affiliate of the PICO National Network. PICO is a national network of faith-based community organizations working to create innovative solutions to problems facing urban, suburban and rural communities. PICO helps engage ordinary people in public life, building a strong legacy of leadership in thousands of local communities across America. Locally, we represent 15,000 families in Stanislaus County.

In 2005 CBC was the only citizen group to interact with the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors to keep health clinics open.  We pushed for and obtained the formation of a lighting district in West Modesto.  As a non partisan organization, we urged voters in three neighbor hoods West Modesto, South Modesto and the Airport Neighborhood to vote.  Due to our efforts we increased voter turnout in one of the precincts in West Modesto in the 2008 election from an average of 65-80 people to 182 people, and we continued our Get Out to Vote efforts to improve voter turnout for the 2010 election. We are also working closely with the Ceres police department to improve public safety, andon a regular basis to seek opportunities in our community where we are able to make a difference.

We have set aside Saturday September 24, 2011 for our Leadership Celebration Banquet. Your $250.00 donation entitles you to a table of eight and a listing in the event program. The Banquet will begin at 6:00 pm and will be held at First United Methodist Church, across from the Public Library in downtown Modesto.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and we look forward to a wonderful evening of cultural entertainment as well as a variety of ethnically diverse food.

Thank You,

Fabiola Garcia

Board President

CBC leaders were part of statewide efforts to keep approximately ½ million children from losing their Healthy Families Coverage. This was accomplished through the passage of Assembly Bill 1422 and a generous contribution from First Five California. The bill also eliminates the Waitlist.

Local Clergy held a Prayer Rally at 1010 Tenth street Plaza in Modesto. Leaders were part of a live National Call at the end of which President Obama was invited to speak about his vision for Health Care reform
Congressman Dennis Cardoza vote in favor health care reform in the house that includes a strong affordability standard. CBC leaders want to continue to encourage Cardoza as the final version begins to take shape and continues to have those strong affordability protections on final legislation.

Meeting in Ceres California

We are hoping to have more meetings like this one, to bring the community closer together and be more open about needs that are not being met.
