Vision
To reach, teach and develop groups of individuals their inherent leadership ability to speak, act and stand in their faith as a collective voice for justice in the lives of self, family and local community.
CBC Mission
CBC Serves members of all faith communities in order to empower and unite us in our efforts to improve the quality of life in our communities. We believe that all communities are called to seek justice and peace for all people. We seek to answer their call by empowering people, building community, and supporting unity in diversity as we follow a PICO (People Improving Communities through Organizing) faith based model.
CBC is an affiliate of PICO
CBC is on of 20 PICO member organizations in California. PICO is a faith-based non-profit institute serving Congregations/Community local affiliates throughout the United States.
CBC/PICO methodology is predicated on the belief that the solutions to problems confronting our neighborhoods and communities must involve those who are directly affected.
Currently PICO has affiliated member organizations in over 1000 in 15 states throughout the country representing over 1 million families.
How does CBC work?
Each member congregation creates a local committee (LOC). The LOC is comprised of people interested in facilitating change in their communities. The LOC reaches out to members of their congregation and community to develop relationships and hear concerns. After listening to concerns, the LOC conducts research, identifies an issue, plans and mobilizes people to a public meeting.
Does this really work?
YES. CBC comes from a 30+ year proven tradition of faith based organizing. PICO (The Pacific Institute for Community Organizing) is a national network that fosters faith-based organizing in over 100 cities across the U.S. CBC, along with the PICO model provides strategic resources that aid the development of our organizing efforts.
